Here are the pictures of James dressed up as Richard Simmons for the church halloween party on Saturday night. We won the 'Most Original Costume' award, and you all know how much awards mean to me. I just wish I had won a trophy instead of a king-sized candy bar--it would have lasted longer.
My favorite comment of the party was, "Um, I don't mean to be rude or to hurt your feelings in any way, but is your child supposed to be dressed up as Richard Simmons?"
I was like, "YES! Can I hug you for an awkwardly long amount of time?"
I'm a little bit too proud of this costume, but I suppose that's what happens when you stay up late into the night cutting out felt stars, shortening shorts, and puffy painting your damn heart out. Unfortunately, we couldn't convince James to wear the headband or wristbands, but we still managed to dress him up as a flamboyant baby boomer with a crunchy AquaNet fro--and that my friends, is more than enough to satisfy any well-balanced mother.
Oh yes, those are my legs. I dressed up as a woman who wears nice fitting jeans with a matching belt. What a blast from the past, huh?!
Hint: click on the pictures to make the large so you can check out my handiwork.

WOOHOO! Go James!
ReplyDeleteExcellent costume, you did a great job on it.
...
Is James planning to release a series of dvds? Maybe "Sweatin'to the Vegitales"?
ReplyDeleteThe stars on the bum!!! I love it!! And you look very nice in your jeans.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I love it! You did an excellent job with your handiwork.
ReplyDeleteVery nice - I love it.
ReplyDeleteC'est Fantastique!
ReplyDeleteI blew the picture up to see if that was really oversized bottles of Ranch Dressing in the background (they look HUGE) and then I noticed that you...put makeup on him???? I hope you don't care but I forwarded the pic to everyone in my office...hilarious....
ReplyDeleteYour jeans do look nice.
Yes, Mormons love to buy in bulk!
ReplyDeleteAnd no, I didn't put makeup on him, but it really does look that way, huh?
LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteFANTASTIC! You should hope Richard Simmons is long gone by the time James is old enough to figure out who he is ... he may just hate you one day for dressing him up like this! But what are kids good for if you can't exploit them when they're young, right?
ReplyDeleteaDORable!!!!! I also love the fact that he appears to be eating cookies in nearly every picture!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, you did an excellent job with the costume!
Hi Amy, I'm Finn and a friend of Tonya here in blogland. I was just reading of the ruckus concerning comments, and I wanted to pop over and tell you how proud I am of you for your honesty and decency. I think you should have had an apology as well, it wasn't just Tonya who caught the s--- from that fan!
ReplyDeleteYour sewing looks wonderful aka The Richard Simmons look!
And you have the most adorable son...love the hair. He really does just to "the look" *VBS* Way to go!! Happy Haunting! Hugs, Finn
That is the BEST kid's costume I have seen yet this year.
ReplyDeleteMy kids could never carry it off with their limp, straight hair...
1. What a fabulous costume! I'm glad you didn't also grease up your child like Richard. That would've made the night interesting, though.
ReplyDelete2. Where did you get your jeans? They are adorable! I want a pair for my own devices!
I love the costume! My 16 mo old daughter has the same curly hair except it's bright red! I love your blog - very real! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGeesh he's cute. There's gonna be a lot of females after those gorgeous eyes one day.. unless of course he take the Simmons thing too far. Great look.. thanks so much for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteYour son looks adorable! He may ban you from ever showing those pics to a girlfriend when he gets older! Love your blog, BTW. Luckily I haven't had any rude comments yet, but I'm trying to brace myself for when that happens.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome costume! Soemthing tells me that if my husband saw this, he'd want to copy it for himself. He seems to favor costumes that require a 'fro and short shorts.
ReplyDeleteLove love love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the costume. Mainly because I know it will be making a therapist a lot of money, about 30 years from now. :)
ReplyDeleteStop the press... no sweatpants?
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
He is too adorable for words. You did a CRAFT-tastic job on the costume. Next thing you know, you'll be sewing curtians and doing Macramé. hee hee.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't any sparkely body lotion on him.... :)
ReplyDeleteHE IS ADORABLE!!!! The 'fro is perfect.
Good job.
He is adorable!! Great job, Amy!!
ReplyDeleteJames is SOOOOOO CUTE! Great job of crafting his costume, Amy. I was thinking of offering you my collection of old Richard Simmons exercise tapes (yes, VHS!). Then James could put his outfit through a genuine Sweatin' to the Oldies workout! :-)I think you lucked out that he didn't beg to be a dinosaur or something.
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it, love it!! Your so handy with your puffy paints!! Too bad about the sweatbands that would have topped it off!!
ReplyDeleteAlthought I love that you can see Larry in the background of one of the pics!
I think next year Ben will be Casper. He's friendly and extremely white. It will work!!
That is seriously one of the coolest costumes ever!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Glad to have you back :)
He looks so cute! You have to send the picture to Richard!Halloween James! Ilove you!!
ReplyDeletehahahahaha, that's a great costume!! he looks adorable!! i've been waiting for those pictures for weeks!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutly Priceless. I can picture you submitting these pictures to his senior year book.... i hope Richard Simmons IS still around so that all of his friends can have a good long laugh....it's perfect!

ReplyDeleteROFLMAO! Oh, Amy! I so knew I would not be disappointed!
ReplyDeleteGreat costume!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm sorry I didn't go. Richard was on Letterman's show a little over a week ago and he WAS greased up to the max. David was so disgusted that, when the next guest was about to come out, he actually stood up and flipped the cushion! It was priceless.
ReplyDeleteHa ha h aha ah ha choke.
