The Love of the Game
October 17, 2007

My husband loves the Red Sox. And when I say he loves the Red Sox, I really, really mean it. For all of you brand new baseball fans out there (I'm talking to you, Colorado), there are 162 games in a regular baseball season. In this house, we listen to, watch, or attend 162 games a season.

It's a little much.

Take a look at those pictures up there. The first one is the three of us at a Red Sox game. Obviously, James was a baby. But I'm not quite sure you can tell how much of a baby he really was. James was thirteen days old. The second picture--James without the afro--is a close up of the outfit he was sporting in the sling. Red Sox onsie, socks, short, vest-type item, and pacifier.

Jared was so mad that the mini hat kept slipping off of James's head at the game. I, on the other hand, was mad that my uterus was held together by nothing but stitches and I was passing beer after beer to the drunk guys next to us.

They were like, "Uh, sorry lady. I spilled some Bud on your baby's head I think."

And just as I was about to lose my noodle, Jared was like, "No biggy! He's got to get used to these games! Beer spills happen!"

And I sat, silently thinking to myself, "Can't he get used to baseball games after the circumcision heals?"

NOPE! Not it this house--baseball comes first, and then we'll wipe the amniotic fluid off the baby and think about giving him a name.

Last night, during the game, I decided to try something new. It went like this:

Me: Jared, I'm glad we're married.

Jared: Uh huh.

Me: But it's getting a little old.

Jared: Oh?

Me: Yeah, I'm afraid I've found somebody new.

Jared: Uh huh.

Me: And I'm moving out tomorrow.

Jared: Sounds good.

He gets pretty wrapped up in the action.

Unfortunately, the Red Sox are stinking in the playoffs right now. Night after night, we've watched them get whooped by the Indians, and if we hear the song "Cleveland Rocks" one more time, my husband might just hurl himself from the balcony. Thank goodness we only live on the second floor...I think he'll pull through and be okay.

But seriously, C'MON RED SOX! Pull your shiz together! You're acting a big bunch of oversized, whiny babies who have no idea how to play baseball. C'MON...you good-for-nothing-stinkin' losers.

Wow, I guess I care, too.

Any other Sox fans out there?

I'm supposed to be a red sox fan since I live in the Boston area. But, since I'm terrible at sports I hate sports. And all of the crazy sox fans &*^%^^&-up my commute home on game days. Boo-urns. I'm so so glad my husband also doesn't like sports :)

The Red Sox are pissing us off big time right now. I can't really talk about it. Ty and I were in Dunks this morning and there were about 7 or 8 old guys who must have been having a meeting about what course of action to take- everyone up here is a manager. I'm pretty sure all of Boston (with the exception of Bri and her husband apparently) is wicked pissed.

I decided it was time to learn how to blog today, thanks to you and your crazy blogs and I can't post pics either. Boo. However, I am married to a New Yorker and live in New York and me, being originally from Boston, and my hubby are Red Sox fans too. It gets a little rough out here when we watch the games with our (Ugh!) Yankee fans, but alls fair in war. We had a large NY on our lawn last year, damn yankees.

Red Sox fan checking in, from Colorado no less. I was so excited when the Rockies made the playoffs because it meant that there was a slim glimmer of hope that I'd be able to watch a Red Sox World Series game here in Denver. Then they both won in the first round and then the Rockies made it all the way.

If the Red Sox screw this up now I'm going to be so upset. Beckett has been good, but Schilling and DiceK had better pull their heads out.

The Red Sox are going down! Anyone in the way of the Rockies winning the Series are going down. 21 of the last 22 games - need I say more?

If you want to remember what it feels like to win, I won't mind if you watch some of the videos posted on my blog of my husband and I celebrating the play-in game.

And by the way I'm as hard core as they come. I've been watching baseball and cheering for the Rocks for a whole 18 days now. I dare you to find someone who has dedicated more of their life to baseball...good luck.

Not I. I dated a baseball player once but that's as close as I've ever been to appreciating the game.

Not a Red Sox fan, but a Cubs fan through-and-through, so I totally get the rabid fanness of it all. Except in our family, it is me. My kids could grow three heads and move out and I would never know if there was a game on. Thankfully, they are quite into it, too. Even my 3-year-old knows what's up ;)

Sorry, I'm a Dodgers fan by virtue of my mom winning the "Truest of the Blue" fan contest back in 1990 and throwing out the first pitch in Dodger stadium. She's cool like that. We took our James to his first MLB game when he was 2 weeks old. And oh yeah, my husband was on crutches because he had just broken his leg that morning but it hadn't been diagnosed yet.

The Sox need a good pre-game pep talk. They didn't even look like they were trying. It's time they got some pep in their step! Finish strong boys! Oh and maybe someone should mention to Lugo, Crisp, Drew and Pedroia that the point of standing there with a bat is to HIT the ball!!

Oh my goodness. I'm glad you said it (about the annoying song) I am SO incredibly sick of it.
And if they don't pull it together tonight I'm going to cry.

I can't say that I've been a big Red Sox fan ever, but I can say that I love Boston, want to live there, and see potential in becoming one . . .
