We usually say a prayer before dinner, and lately James has been bouncing out of his booster seat to be the one to offer it. He's only three, so he's still a little bit young to be able to compose it on his own. Usually Jared will say a line and James will repeat it.
This is how it went a few nights ago....
JARED: Thank you for this food.
JAMES: Thank you for this food.
JARED: Please help it to give us strength.
JAMES: Please help give us some drinks.
JARED: Bless us that the Holy Spirit will be in our home.
JAMES: Because I am very thirsty.
JARED: And we thank you for Jesus.
JAMES: And we thank you for cheese sticks.
Right from the heart. Well said, James. Amen!

Well, did he get the drinks and the cheese sticks?
Too cute!
I truly understand thanking God for cheese. It is the world's greatest food.
lol...he is so cute.
That is so cute!
Mmmm. Cheese sticks! I'm teaching the 4-year-olds in Primary and three of the four positively go mute when they are asked to give the prayer. Good work, James!
That was your big chance to be an answer to a prayer--did you follow through?
I am always grateful for cheese sticks. I particularly love the fried ones from Arby's.
James is adorable. He must get it from you.
Amen! 3 year olds are hilarious.
Wait. James is now plagiarizing from Monty Python's Life of Brian? When the people at the back of the crowd at the Sermon on the Mount can't hear Jesus too well, and they think He said "Blessed are the cheesemakers" instead of "Blessed are the peacemakers"?
TOTAL ripoff off that joke. I have lost all respect for you, James, and now I'm totally disillusioned and jaded and will never trust a three year old again, especially on issues of theology. Whereas before they were my go-to age-group for God-related questions.
My boys are into one (and only one) prayer at meal time.
to the tune of the Superman theme song...
Thank you Gooood, for giving us fooood....thank you Gooood for giving us foooood....
Thank you Jesuuuus for the gifts that you giiive uuuus, thank you God.
da da da dum...
Any other prayers? Totally boring in their eyes.
Cheese sticks! This kid definitely has his priorities in order ;)
Classic James...and I was thinking of your great-great grandfather with whom you share your name. When asked to say grace,he would reply "Grace?,I always say Margaret!"
This was freaking hysterical.
Because I'm thirsty. That is an awesomely funny line!
cute stuff. trent says the same prayer for meal and bed times. "Heavenly Father, we r grateful for this day, nourish our bodies, in the name of ........" I guess it gets the main things?!
I am dying right now...that is perfect.
Very nice article thank you so much for the posting..............
