Ok, I just got a few communications responding to my post.

Perhaps I put myself out there way too much with this blog. I started this blog as a place to write down my funny stories, and maybe it got too big.

I'm not a very thick skinned person--embarrassingly wimpy if you want me to be honest about it--so I think I'm going to take some time off. Strangers are making me cry like a woman with an issue, and I don't really need that right now. I must stay strong, I have chicken nuggets to cook.

Sorry guys. I'll be back soon.

whoever wrote that: you are totally lame.

Amy, the same thing happened to me, and nobody even reads my blog. that is why i approve all my comments now. i guess some people might think that's lame and i should take whatever comments people give me, but i don't need people trying to make me feel bad or guilty about nothing. i bet you'll feel better if you do take at least a couple days off from blogging. some people like to ruin the fun for the rest of us.

Hello Amy, you don't know me but Charlotte (my wife) and I read your blog daily. I am sorry if people have hurt your feelings. That sucks.

Amy- you have no idea who I am, but I totally look forward to reading your blog everyday while I sit at my very mundane job. It is definately a highlight for me. I love your humor, and the way you look at life--it makes me feel a bit more normal. I understand if you need a break, but please don't quit. You have no idea how many faces YOU put a smile on everyday.

What?!? That's totally crappy (not you. Who ever is being mean) Honestly chica, DON'T SWEAT IT!!! Seriously, if some loser finds time to e-mail you with hate mail then THEY have nothing better to do with their time. Jealousy perhaps? Probably. Or they just get some crappy kick out of getting a rise out of you. Chin up. Don't let him/her stop you from doing what YOU like :-)

We love your stuff! ;D

Chiming in (and delurking at the same time, I suppose), to say that I'm so sorry that some people are being unkind. Personally, I love your blog - the stories you tell and how much you make me laugh. I really hope that you feel better soon.

Amy,

I found your blog thru the joggler, then half fast, and then yours. Your blog is great and don't let anybody let you change the way you write. It constantly makes me laugh. You have a great way of looking at the your daily life and finding humor in everything. I get made fun of daily for being a Cubs fan, but it is part of being a fan and loving your team. I do feel for the Rockies(players). They had a great run and maybe just a little to much time off. Unfortunately it will take generations for their fans to catch up with the rest of baseball. They just didn't grow up with it like most fans. If these people actually think your blog is directed at them and don't see the humor then they really need to find a life of their own.

Keep it up, we all need your humor each day.

JK

Hello, Amy, I join the list of people you don't know, but who love your blog. It's one of the highlights of my day! Like Tori said above, take a break if you need to but don't go away! If you do, I am sure you'll leave a lot of people that much sadder. Let those comments be like the proverbial water off a duck's back . . . I bet you have a lot more fans than detractors.

And you're the only funny mormon I know. Chin up!

Amy,

I need names of the offenders so that I can look up addresses and take care of this, if you know what I mean. I enjoy your blog, and it is time for me to step in. An offender of the Lawsons is an offender of the Petersons, and the Petersons settle things in a "different" sort of way. I have this "friend", we'll call him "Spooky", and he handles this type of "business" for me at a good "price". It's time for some good ol' fashioned, Chicago-style Sicilian mafioso, and no, I don't mean pizza.

That is lame that people are emailing you too. It is one thing to make a comment on a blog, but something totally different to start personally contacting people. Keep up the good work. Your take on life always helps me.

Please don't stop,Amy! I love your blog and all my friends do,too. Putting yourself out there makes you game for people to pick on. The whole email thing to you is weird, though. Keep your chin up and your laptop open!!

Amy, I love your blog. Please don't stop. I often find myself playing the devil's advocate and hope I haven't offended anyone. I am way closer to 70 than you are and am not into so called "potty language" - it wouldn't seem right coming out of my mouth but that's more of a generational thing, I suppose. You have never offended me and have made me laugh many times. So if laughter is good for the soul, then you are good for my soul!

Anonymous said...

I would just say relax. To everyone. You really dumped a lot of salt in the wounds of Rockies fans. I couldn't read any comments that were too mean. Someone may have emailed you, if that is the case I apoligize. If not you both said some things that weren't real nice and not too mean. Imagine you were one of the true fans getting lumped in with the people who couldn't tell you the starting pitchers' names last.

Take a deep breath and remember how this fits in in the grand scheme of things. See you Sunday.

Amy, You are so fantastic. I don't even know how I found your blog, but you totally crack me up. I have your blog "bookmarked". I read it everyday. I was driving to pick up my kids at school and thought about the "Amy McSweatpants" and started cracking up again. And that photo of you with your trophies a while back...You are adorable! Plus, that story about your husband and the deoderant...LOVE IT! This is real life stuff and I thank you for sharing it. Don't let anyone get you down. You are so awesome!

Julie said...

Oops...that last comment from "Thomas" is actually from me, Julie. Thomas is my husband. I just didn't want you to think some weirdo guy was making comments about how you are adorable and thought that deoderant story was funny. That would be a little creepy! Anyway, I, Julie, think you are great!

Amy,
I think haters are a good sign that you're getting darn good at what you're doing.

Take some time, but don't quit. That would be a real shame. Plus then I'd have to call you a hell of a lot more often to know what's going on in your daily life, and that would get pricey.

I love you loads,
Your loyal sister. :)

Amy, please don't let a few haters make you stop!!! I look for new posts from you at least 2x a day...you know, just in case you happen to write twice. I've also got a few other people addicted to your blog too. I'm sorry anyone would be mean to you... just know there are a lot more of us who LOVE you!

All I can say, is anyone dumb enough to keep reading something they find offensive is an idiot :) So, if they want to continue being idiots and leaving you hate mail, let em. Who's the bigger loser? The one marking every bad email as spam/junk, or the one wasting hours reading crap they don't agree with and find offensive and then going through the effort to type a nasty email? Your blog rocks. I read it aloud to my boyfriend all the time. I can't wait to see the mini Richard Simmons pics!

P.S. I expect at least 3 more posts during this work week, or ummm, I may be sending some hate mail myself. ;-)

The reason that I spend so much time reading blogs (and I suspect it's not just me) is for the personal perspective that you can't find in other forms of publication.
The realism that blogs provide fills a human need to assure ourselves that we're not the only ones who do weird things or get into sticky situations (Normal is relative and I'm not really so strange after all, right?).

You obviously feel strongly about your team and your post. That's okay with me, although frankly, I don't give a sha-diz-nit about baseball (or other crazy-screaming-fan-sports). As a matter of fact, over at my blog, I've been debating about posting an anti-football rant even though I know that I'm sure to get hate mail.
I guess I'm going to have to toughen up if I want to be honest.

I'll be lurking to see what you do.
I hope you keep writing.
I love reading your blog.

Hey Amy,

I'm one of the many people who've commented on this post who've never commented before - and you have NO idea who I am, but I look forward to your blog everyday! It totally makes me laugh! Anyone who's actually taking the time to write mean things on your blog obviously has too much time on their hands and some serious low self esteem so just ignore them because obviously you are superior in so many ways!

I hope you keep writing, I will miss all your stories!!

Hey Amy,
I am a lurker although I may have commented once before. (I think about doing it all the time, but can't remember if I actually did.)

I LOOOOOOVE your blog. I have a two year old boy, so I can relate to most of your stories. In fact he loved the video of James crying so much that whenever he sees me reading your blog, he says, "wanna see the cwining." Translation, "mother, would you show me that lovely video of the boy crying again?"

I thought you were a little harsh on the Rockies, but that's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I can't believe people are getting so bent out of shape over it. It's not even a sports blog!

Please don't stop blogging. I really enjoy reading yours. You are so funny, and it helps me deal with my "active" two year old to know that he's not the only one giving his mom sha-diz-nit!

Oh, and also, I am so jealous of all the comments you've received on this post.

Obi-Run Kenobi said...

I sympathize with your bruised feelings. My fiance is the same way and had to stop posting to her blog (DeadJournal, way back then) because people would post really nasty comments anonymously that really upset her.

My advice to her was the same as I have for you: it does no good to respond to those cowards, and stopping your blog because of a few idiots gives them power that they probably lack in their real life paper-pushing job with a nagging spouse and spastic kids.

Others have already suggested setting it up to approve your comments and I agree with that. I do that on my own running blog, even though I'm fairly sure noone reads it.

It's unfortunte that people who have the intellectual capacity of aluminum foil can't just post a nice comment with their opinion expressed cogently. And if you got actual e-mail from those people, I can only shake my head and apologize for all legitimate and sane sports fans who don't don a Red Sox hat.

I encourage you to keep posting and ignore the playa haters. They need to stop hating the playa and hate the game.

I'm another "you don't know me but I'm addicted to your blog" lurker who is DEVASTATED at the thought that you are considering not blogging! I found you from the link on sisterskinny not too long ago and have checked in daily ever since. The other day I had some free time (okay, not really free time but I didn't want to do the work I was SUPPOSED to be doing!) and I even sifted through your archives (that isn't supposed to sound as dirty as it does!) to read some of the earlier blogs you've referenced recently.

I read the deoderant story outloud to my husband who laughed and laughed, and this man is hard to make laugh. You should be very proud!
