This is It

December 20, 2007

Well, this is it. Today is my last day as a Dallas Texan, and I'm surprisingly sad. It's not the actual city that I'll miss, because let's face it, any right minded person can do without seven laned highways, one-hundred-and-four degree sleeping weather, and x-rated billboards with obscenely catchy slogans like "Ho-Made Pies." It's the friends that I'll miss--you know, the hos who actually make the baked goods. My friends all have exceptional ta-tas and loads of talent in the kitchen. I see many bright futures ahead.

As with any move, we've already had our share of ups and downs. But, for the sake of my own mental health, I'm choosing to look on the bright side of things.

For example:
The bad news is--I dropped my cell phone in the unflushed toilet this morning (yes, I was texting from the can). But the good news is--I fished it out within one eighth of a second.

The bad news is--The phone's not working. But the good news is--I've got a spare.

The bad news is--It's packed away somewhere in the moving truck, I've got a job interview on Monday morning, and that's my only source of communication. The good news is--I have a loving husband, a healthy son, and very supportive parents.

Okay, I know that has nothing to do with the cell phone, but I'm having a hard time finding the up side of that situation.

Posts will be light (if at all) for the next few days. But rest assured that I'll bring my camera, and I'll have some killer stories for you when I get home.

Have a great trip Amy.

Maybe the upside in not being able to communicate with your potential new employer is that you won't look too eager to get the job and they'll feel like they need to offer you more money to get you to accept the position.

My father and I will be praying for you both to make it safely back east. Remember to pack blankets and winter emergency stuff inside your car! Love you.

Keep the phone off. Take all the pieces apart and let them dry. Then put them back together. If your phone didn't short circuit, then it might work.

Your post reminds me of a game I play with my kids called "Fortunately, unfortunately". You just start a story, the next person says, fortunately ... then the next person says UNfortunately... and you just go back and forth that way. Your cell phone toilet story would be perfect for that game!

Safe driving, pack warm stuff for the trip. As for the interview, is it for a stay at home mommy for a cute little curly haired boy?

first? you crack me the HECK UP! I like to flatter myself and think that's not easily done (see also: david sederis, anne lamott, eliz. gilbert and dan savage).

next? I, too, am moving this weekend, losing it (though not the cell phone. YET.), and so appreciate the laugh.

Oh Amy, that is hilarious...not what you are going through, but the way you describe it, of course. I know the interview will work its self out. By the way I talk on the phone when I'm going potty too!

Have a safe and fun trip and even though big boobs are nice, trust me when I say you will NOT miss it!

James is all tucked in for the night...reading his Cars book...he and Dad made a snow fort today! I asked him where you are and he said "in a truck" so be careful...you got a later start than planned- don't buy the donut in Texarkana like we did on the way down.Remember it looked so good in the case, but was hard as a rock..maybe some of the same batch is still in there! xo
