Rapidly Falling Standards

June 18, 2010

On the first day of school, James wore plaid shorts, a golf shirt, a polo sweater, and a braided leather belt. He had gel in his hair, a brand new pair of sneakers, and had an overall snappy look. See?

On the last day of school James wore a muscle shirt, and elastic ankle sweatpants cocked to the left.

We like to go out with a bang.

That is funny.

We call the pants 'whopperjawed.' It's a fashion statement I see a lot at our house.

That way you start with low expectations for next year!

at least he is practicing his kissy face for all of the ladies.

And hey - you got a whole year out of those shoes, score!

That is strangely reminiscent of the decline of motherly involvement in getting dressed that occurred at our house this year.

As a teacher, I start off all classy & crisp and end up in my jamie bottoms, holey tanktop, uncombed hair and fuzzy lime green slipper... ok that may not be entirely true, but I am mentally dressed that way!

Even better than the clothes is his facial expression. In the beginning, he's excited and ready to tackle the school year. In the end, it looks like the school year actually tackled him. Poor kid, lmao, looks like he is definitely ready for summer vacation.

Sometimes you just can't keep up the facade.

That's pretty typical for my kids. They have a uniform code at their school. After about March, we stop buying replacement pants, shirts, etc. By the end of the year, it's barely passable.

His pants are at his waist line. It's all good. =)

I love this! It's just so true. One year I made Little Feller wear shirs with a collar to school in the hope that he could "dress the part" of a student that pays attention...such folly...

Tee hee, my kids area totally that way on the last day.
In fact, this year I even forgot to do my regular photo... so I think stanadards are falling all over. :)

I once had a college professor who wore his slacks off to the side like that. It was the weirdest thing. There was no explaining it; I never could figure out how someone reaches adulthood dressing like that. But it's cute on your kid.
