Tender Family Moments

September 1, 2008

A few weeks back I convinced my husband to join Facebook. Initially, Jared was reluctant to join another online networking site, claiming that they're too hard to navigate and always changing.

I've got to admit that the man has a point. There was nothing simple about changing a background on MySpace, and now whenever someone tells me to check out their updated MySpace profile I think to myself, "Awesome. Did you just buy a tight pair of Guess jeans and some Pop Rocks, too?"

Because seriously--MySpace is about as hip as the thirteen extra pounds that I'm lugging around.

After a great deal of cajoling and convincing, Jared finally took the plunge and created a shiny, new Facebook profile complete with quotes, links, applications, and 4,000 or so friends.

He also added photos.

Many photos.

Like this one:
That is me, hopped up on morphine and Buddha-only-knows-what-else, minutes after my cesarean delivery of James "Sorry Mom, but I Prefer to Sit Head Up" Lawson.

When I asked Jared why on earth he would ever dream of posting such an atrocious picture in a public forum he replied, "That's our first picture together as a family. I think it's beautiful."

"Right," I said. "Well come over here and we'll snap our first picture together as a divorced couple. Because I SWEAR I'M GONNA LEAVE YOU!"

Okay. He's totally fired. But at least you're smiling and happy in your c-section pics. I just look like I don't know where I am, "um, whose baby is this and when did my husband become a doctor?"

Facebook stresses me out--I can't keep up with all the poking and walling and trying to be popular. People keep telling me how many friends they have and I want to ask, "yes, but can you remember what they look like in REAL LIFE?"

Of course I'm still on facebook, even though I rip on it all the time. I mean, who wouldn't want such an easy way to spy on people from the past?

I completely appreciate the irony of this post.

Oh, man! If it gives you any comfort, you look better than I ever looked in my just-given-birth pictures!

Absolutely. Hilarious.

I like to rag on my friends who think it's great to publish every picture ever taken on their cameras, titling the albums something like "August - December 2008."

Seriously? If you're going to post 14,587 pictures of your new hair cut while making unflattering faces, at LEAST take the time to orient them upright!

pretty damn funny.

the memories of the c-sect... consider yourself lucky that you have this picture. my husband almost passed out the first time, and actually passed out for real in the operating room the second time. we have no *happy* pics like this one.

I always loved that picture, but it reminds me of how I had to wait 5 days until I got down to Dallas to see all of you. Jared always looks like your Dr. in that photo!!

That is so something my husband would do. I love facebook. I have to set timers though, I get lost & suddenly hours have passed.

Hey, it's better than OUR first family picture together... my feet are still up in the stirrups, and although all the essentials are cropped out, my big, fat, nasty white thighs are gleamingly in focus while our faces are almost lost in the shadows.

It's certainly not something I would ever want posted on the internet... I totally don't blame you.

Wow. I'm with you. But then I'm PMSing hard core and quite frankly, if you're under 30 and/or don't have an uterus, I don't want you around.

I've never been here before, but I'm laughing. LOVE the pic. And its 4,000 viewers. My sister's husband just did the same thing to her - except he posted the not-so-great picture on HER facebook. He thought it was cute.

I'll stop rambling on a strangers blog now...

You're lucky you got your hubby on facebook in the first place. I'm on it, but hubby isn't, and there is no way I could convince him otherwise.

I agree with Jared. It's beautiful! Hope you get a picture just as great the second time around.

I want to add you on my Facebook, but there are an awful lot of Amy's out there. :)

Give me a hint, which one are you?

That picture is cute! OK, but not one I'd post everywhere too. And by the way, YOU ARE THE ONE that got me into Myspace and thought it was the coolest thing since New Kids On The Block (can u believe they are back?! I love them). Anywho, I don't go on there anymore either now that I blog, but don't diss it mama when you were their numero uno fan!!! LOL

My favorite thing about that photo is Jared's necklace.
Tell him I think my sophomore year those went out of style. Harsh but true.
